How guests upload videos

The length comes from the plan

Each plan sets a recording length. A free event allows 30 seconds; the paid tiers get 5, 10 and 15 minutes. The limit kicks in on the guest page itself — select a longer clip and it flags overlong clips, and requests for a shorter one.

You can also lower the limit for your own event, within plan limits. That fits a party where you want many short greetings instead of a few long talks.

1. Open the guest page. Scan it or tap the shared link. Video gets its own area on the page.
2. Pick a clip. The camera roll opens. Short clips win out: they arrive faster and get watched more.
3. Wait for it to finish. The page shows progress. Closing it kills the upload in flight; anything already sent is safe.

The size ceiling is calculated from the length instead of kept separate, so it always fits what a phone records in that time.

Why a video takes longer

A video dwarfs a photo, and the time to finish relies on the connection not on us. Measured across 138 production videos the median bitrate is 1.84 MB per second of footage, and an iPhone filming in 4K hits around 6.7 MB per second. A minute of recording means a few hundred megabytes.

In practice: 3 short clips upload more reliably than one 10-minute clip, and each of them is in the album already while the long one is still going.

Which video formats go through

MP4, MOV and WebM — which is what phones record with default settings. MOV is the iPhone default and skips conversion. Files are inspected by content, not extension, so renaming one achieves nothing.

Anything else is turned away at check-in. If you're uploading a clip out of an editing app, save it as MP4.

After the upload comes the work

A video that has landed isn't yet in the album. It's prepared first so it plays smoothly on a phone network later, and only then hits the state the album shows. For long clips that takes minutes instead of seconds.

While that runs, the guest spots nothing of their video in the album. Worth mentioning out loud, or they send the same file a second time.

Turning video off entirely

Video comes on out of the box and can be disabled for each event. The guest page then shows photos and, where enabled, voice notes. That's the quickest lever when space runs short or the location network can't carry anything large.

Photos can't be disabled. They're the point of an album and are always available.

What to tell your guests

3 sentences spare you half the evening s questions. Keep clips short, keep the page open up until it says it's done, and switch to cellular data on weak wi-fi. Put that on the table card and you won't repeat it 20 times.

For speeches a voice note works better anyway: smaller, faster to arrive and easier to listen to afterward.
