Why voice notes work

At a party few folks want to talk to a camera, and the speech no one gave is otherwise lost. A voice note removes precisely that barrier: the guest looks away, talks for 40 seconds and stops. The page names it the way it's meant — the toast you didn't get to give.

For you it becomes the part of the album that ages best. A photo shows who was there; a voice captures what it was like.

1. Switch to audio. The page lists "Leave a voice note". A tap opens the recorder.
2. Allow the microphone. The browser asks once. Without permission the recorder remains mute, and the page warns you.
3. Record and listen back. After stopping, the note supports play and retake. Sending alone makes it visible.

The microphone permission

The browser requests for the mic the first time the recorder is tapped. A guest who taps deny by mistake then spots that access is blocked and must re-enable it in the browser settings. On a phone that setting rests with the website, not with an app.

Another app can be holding the mic too — a video call, for instance. The page says it can't get to it; ending the call and a second tap fixes it.

How long a note may be

On the free tier recording cuts off automatically at 30 seconds, and the page warns you first. The paid tiers have no set time limit; a note there tops out at the 50 MB file ceiling. You can still lower the limit for your own event.

A short limit isn't a drawback. It sharpens the point, and 30 seconds of something said gets more plays than 4 minutes.

The 50 MB ceiling is the same on each plan and isn't reached by spoken audio in practice.

Which audio formats arrive

The recorder on the page outputs a readable format. Anybody uploading by hand can use M4A, OGG, WAV or WebM. Files are inspected by content, not extension, so a renamed MP3 won't get through.

For your guests that's a non-issue: the route through the recorder selects the right format solo.

What makes a note audible

Placement does most of the work. 3 meters from the speakers sounds distinct from right up close, and the phone held close to the mouth outperforms any later processing. A corridor, a corner or the garden is enough — that's about intelligible speech, not a studio.

The page allows a preview before sending. If a guest can't hear themselves, they re-record; while nothing goes out that costs seconds.

Where the note ends up

A sent voice note follows the route of a photo: checked, prepared, then into the album, showing a waveform instead of a thumbnail. Under review-first, it awaits your approval first.

Voice notes can also be disabled for each event. The guest page then shows photos and, where enabled, video.
