Nothing happens when a guest taps Record
The recorder asks the browser for the microphone the first time somebody taps Record. A browser puts that question on screen one time per site, so a guest who declined it once gets a button that responds and a recording that never begins. A short red line under the button says which case it is.
If there is no Record option on the guest page at all, nothing is broken. Voice messages are switched off for that event, and the card is left out rather than greyed out.
Why does tapping Record do nothing?
Because the microphone was declined once and the browser kept that answer. QR Album asks for it the moment a guest taps Record, and the prompt is small, quick and easy to dismiss by accident. After a decline the button still reacts, nothing is captured, and a line of red text appears underneath it.
The line reads: “Microphone access is blocked. Allow it in your browser settings, then tap to record.” That is the recorder telling you the answer is stored, not that the phone is broken.
The failure stays inside the voice panel on purpose. Photos and videos keep working while it is on screen, so a blocked microphone never costs you the rest of the album.
- Read the red line. Blocked access and an unreachable microphone are 2 different messages, and each points at a different fix.
- Allow the microphone for the site. On an iPhone that sits behind the AA icon in the Safari address bar. Reload the page afterwards.
- Hang up whatever else is listening. A live call holds the microphone on its own, and the browser can’t borrow it while the call runs.
Where does a guest turn the microphone back on?
In the browser’s settings for that website, not under the phone’s app permissions. On an iPhone, tap the AA icon at the left of the Safari address bar, open the website settings and set Microphone to Allow. On Android, tap the icon beside the address, open Permissions and switch Microphone on.
Reload the page afterwards. Permission granted halfway through doesn’t reach a recorder that already asked and was turned down.
The microphone is busy with something else
A phone hands the microphone to one place at a time. A call in progress, a voice note being recorded in a messaging app, or a recorder left running in the background all keep it, and the browser is then refused even though the permission is granted.
That case gets its own wording: “We couldn’t reach your microphone. Check that no other app is using it, then try again.” End the call, close the other app, tap Record again.
There is no Record option on the guest page
Then voice messages are off for that event, and the card is left out instead of greyed out. Voice is on the moment an album is created, so this only happens when somebody switched it off. Open the event in your dashboard, go to Guest pages, and turn Voice messages back on.
A guest who reports the recorder as missing is describing a setting, not a fault on their phone. Look at your own guest page first: if the card is absent there too, the switch is your answer.
Why did the recording stop by itself?
A free album stops the recorder at 30 seconds. That is a clean ending rather than a crash: everything spoken up to that point is kept, and the guest can play it back and send it. Essential, Celebrate and Grand put no length limit on a voice message, and the recorder runs until somebody taps Stop.
The ceiling is printed under the button before anything starts. A free album says “Tap to record · up to 30 seconds”, and a paid one says “Tap to record”.
Which audio files does an album accept?
M4A and MP4 audio, OGG, WAV and WebM, up to 50 MB per message. Anything recorded on the guest page already lands inside that list, because the recorder takes whatever the phone’s browser produces and sends it as it is. No conversion happens on the phone, and none is needed.
50 MB is far past anything spoken out loud. A message that records but won’t send is a connection problem rather than a file problem, and the page reports it the same way it reports a stalled photo.
Common questions
Why doesn’t the browser ask for the microphone again?
It stored the answer for that site. Until a guest changes it in the browser settings, the question isn’t put on screen a second time.
Can a guest hear the message before it is sent?
Yes. The recording sits on the phone until they tap to send, and they can play it back or record it again first.
How long can a voice message be?
30 seconds on a free album, with no time limit on Essential, Celebrate or Grand.
Do guests need an app to record?
No. The recorder is part of the guest page and runs in the browser they scanned the code with.
The album shows no voice messages. Where did they go?
That is a second switch, on the album rather than on the guest page. Turned off, guests stop hearing them and you keep every one in your dashboard.
